Children's Art Classes
General Information
The first Art Block for 2018 Children’s classes will start
SECOND week of term 1.
My focus for the term will be a unit called
“Mini Masters at Work”.
This is a 9 week unit where we look at the works of some well known artists such as Mondrian, Modigliani, Van Gogh & Warhol to name a few and then we paint/ draw like them. We discuss how they worked, their subject matter and enjoy discovering new ways to apply paint and various drawing mediums to paper and canvas.
This is a wonderful learning experience for the children, as they may not usually be exposed to some of these techniques in a normal school classroom.
Contact me for the enrollment details and complete the enrollment form and return it to me ASAP.
Mini Masters at Work starts on the second week of term 1
Monday January 29th,
Wednesday January 30th
or
Thursday February 1st.
Children’s After school Art Classes have been running for over 12 years at Wooloowin State School. I offer small class sizes to provide students with the best learning environment I possibly can. Each class will be usually be capped at 12 enrollments to provide this opportunity. There will however be some allowance for larger numbers if students need to make up missed lessons or if a particular day is in high demand.
Subjects covered throughout the year can include Drawing, Painting, Design, Sculpture, Clay, Mosaics, Printmaking, Murals and Art History. Classes are multi age ranging from 6 to 12 years old. I believe this helps students to work collaboratively and nurture each other to develop at a personal level. Mixed ages have worked really well over the years, as the younger children tend to be inspired by the older ones, and the older kids get a chance to lead and encourage the younger students.
All classes during 2018 will be held at the Wooloowin State School, Lutwyche Road, Wooloowin. Classes will run weekly in accordance with the Queensland State School term calendar. Classes do not operate over the school holiday period or on any public holidays.
Classes are 90mins in duration; officially starting at 3.30pm and ends at 5pm. This allows time for students from other schools to travel. Wooloowin State School students can meet me and the other art students on the Chessboard area at 3pm, and will be under my care until 5pm. In the 30 minutes prior to class starting, students can change out of their uniform into suitable clothing and also to have some afternoon tea. Please pack an extra snack on Art days and bring a water bottle.
Students are to wait in class in the art area until their parents collect them.
I ask that all students, both returning and new, please return a completed and updated Enrolment and Consent Form prior to the commencement of classes in each Term to allow sufficient time for class planning.
If your child attends Wooloowin State School After Hours Care, please complete the relevant section so I can inform them of your other after school commitments. This will also allow your child to be in my care for this time. I suggest you also inform them of your child’s art classes
Class Dress Code:
It is recommended that students change out of their school uniforms into older clothing. I provide aprons, however sometimes students will work in messy mediums and can sometimes get paint on their clothing. It is a health and safety regulation for students to wear enclosed footwear.
Student Art Exhibition:
All students taught throughout the year have the opportunity to show some of their artwork in an exhibition. While it is certainly not compulsory to participate in this exhibition, I would encourage students to take part in this wonderful experience. It is a fabulous way to show family and friends what wonderful creations they have completed during the year. Students really enjoy having the opportunity to have their work hanging in an art gallery at a young age.
Class Fees:
For the past 11 years, the fees have stayed the same. In my tenth year teaching kids classes I had to finally raise the weekly fee by $2. I have endeavored to keep the fees low to ensure costs are covered and students still experience a wide variety of activities. The fees cover all materials, including paint, clay etc, a personal art journal/ sketchbook, which is given to every student when they commence class and 90 minutes of tuition each week.
Fee is $22 per week (all materials included)
Class Time:
Classes run on either Monday, Wednesday or Thursday afternoons.
